He will present the workshop and seminar that he developed for our 2024 Mental Health in Education Shows, discussing insights into mental health and wellbeing provision and developing skills across the curriculum.
Seminar – How do you compare to the national data on mental health and wellbeing provision?
Here we discuss trends over the last two years covering Ethos and Environment, Leadership and Management, Student Voice, Parents, Carers and Families, Staff Development, Identifying Needs and Monitoring Impact, Targeted Support and Curriculum, Teaching and Learning. An insight to help benchmark your setting against the rest of the country. National data based on the free online audit tool (https://audit.mentalhealthlead.com)
Workshop – Prevention is better than cure: Mental health skills development across the curriculum
The adage is correct; prevention is better than cure. The UK, indeed the world, is experiencing a wave of mental health challenges, particularly among the young, for numerous and well documented reasons. We are all familiar with the overload on services and as the children we teach grow, there is no long term solution in site. As part of the curriculum we offer young people, we need to be teaching them to be mentally literate and to have the skills to cope with what they face and be resilient to the future. Author of a forthcoming book on the topic, Richard will lead a workshop aimed at thinking more about the natural opportunities across the curriculum to promote mental health and wellbeing.
