We are proud to announce the start of a series of AMHIE podcasts aimed at discussing the big issues facing the sector
Our very first podcast episode will be airing on 16th September 2025, and will feature our National Steering group members, AMHIE Chair and CEO Richard Daniel Curtis and special guest Mental Health campaigner Ben West. Gathering professionals from within the sector, our aim is to discuss the current trends and difficulties facing them and possible solutions and outcomes they would like to see.
Podcast Episode 1: Are we facing an epidemic of mental health difficulties in education?
It’s a question that goes beyond simple yes or no. We’re seeing a clear and concerning rise in mental health challenges among students, from elementary school all the way through university. In this episode, we’ll explore what’s behind this trend, from the intense academic pressures and the constant presence of social media to the lasting impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We’ll also discuss the ripple effect this is having, not just on students’ grades and attendance, but on the entire educational system. We’ll examine if our schools and universities are equipped to handle this growing crisis and look at the support systems in place—and where they might be falling short. So, whether you’re a student, a parent, an educator, or just someone who wants to understand this critical issue, tune in as we get to the heart of what’s really happening in our schools and how we can work toward a solution.
