AMHIE Clinician/Practitioner membership for £69+VAT
The Association of Mental Health in Education understands the needs of clinicians working in private practice and individual practitioners. The work you do is invaluable in meeting the needs of the children and young people.
Whilst you may have professional bodies related to your training, we have noticed that there is a gap between your professional representation and the education sector. We therefore felt it was important to offer a level of membership that enables you to access representation, news, updates and discussion that will help your professional development.
Your work spans two sectors, both with their own rules, vocabulary and expectations and this provides a degree of complexity to your work. We therefore want to provide you with:
- Networking with peers
- Summaries of research
- Sector news
- CPD
- Regional conferences
With an opportunity to join our clinical subcommittee, your voice can have an impact on hundreds, if not thousands of educational settings. For one low fee you can access annual membership and use our member’s logo on your website to show potential clients that you are a part of us. If you have a particular service or product you want accredited, we offer bronze, silver, gold and platinum level accreditation (extra fees apply). So join today and let us help you.
AMHIE Clinician vs. Regulatory Bodies (BACP, UKCP, HCPC)

| Legal Status | Industry Association (Advocacy). | Professional Standards Authority (PSA) Register. |
| Member Logo | Signal: “I understand how schools work.” | Signal: “I am a qualified, safe therapist.” |
Key Differentiators for Clinicians
1. The “Educational Context” Gap
Most clinical training covers the theory of therapy but rarely the logistics of working inside a school (e.g., how to navigate an EHCP, what Ofsted looks for, or how to speak to a Headteacher). AMHIE fills this gap. Membership includes access to Expert Toolkits and Statutory Guidance that are written specifically for the education environment.
2. Networking with Decision-Makers
In a standard professional body, you are in a room with other therapists (your competition). In AMHIE, you are in a digital and physical space with 1,500+ Senior Mental Health Leads. This makes it a business development tool rather than just a professional box-ticking exercise.
3. Influence via the Clinical Subcommittee
Unlike the BACP, where influencing policy is difficult for individual members, AMHIE has a Clinical Subcommittee. As a Clinician member, you can join this group to have a direct say in the guidance and toolkits being distributed to thousands of UK schools.
4. Cost vs. Training Value
Our paid tiers unlock over £700–£1,200 worth of training and CPD. For a clinicians, the £69 fee is often offset by just one or two of their specialist training courses (which members get for free or at a 30% discount).
Summary: Which do you need?
-
You MUST have: BACP/UKCP or HCPC membership to practice legally and safely in the UK.
-
You SHOULD have AMHIE if: You are a private practitioner, counsellor, or psychologist looking to get more contracts with schools or if you find school-specific legislation (like DfE statutory guidance) confusing to navigate on your own.
Note: AMHIE should be used in addition to your primary clinical membership to prove to Headteachers that you are “school-ready.”
