We were contacted by the team at SORTS to share with you their new free resource and training hub specifically aimed at schools.
Dr Anne-Marie Burn, (Senior Research Associate, University of Cambridge) shared the information below with our team.
“Recognising and responding to self-harm in schools – https://sorts4schools.org.uk/ This website includes training and information to help school staff recognise and respond to young people who self-harm. It is aimed at all staff working in schools, including those in admin, support and teaching roles. The content was developed by researchers, school staff and young people.
This resource aims to equip schools with the necessary tools and strategies to recognise and effectively respond to students who self-harm. SORTS has been co-developed by researchers at the University of Cambridge, with The Charlie Waller Trust, mental health professionals, school staff and young people.
The SORTS website is designed to support a whole-school approach to self-harm prevention and intervention, and as such includes an entry-level, 30-minute e-learning module targeted towards ALL school staff as well as information, videos and downloadable resources.
SORTS resources have been developed for use in schools with staff, parents, carers and students, and can be downloaded from the website for free. They include infographics, activity sheets and information leaflets for school staff, parents and young people.
The SORTS project was funded by The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), who launched the resource for World Mental Health Day (https://arc-eoe.nihr.ac.uk/news-blogs/news-latest/preventing-self-harm-improved-support-young-people-schools). “
